Force Update of New Password on MAC Keychain

After you have changed your domain password:

  • Upon bootup, log in to Mac with your old password. (Should log in directly to your user profile).
  • Connect to VPN via GlobalProtect.
  • Open Terminal (at top-right, search for and launch Terminal).
  • Type “login identifier” 
    • Example:  login abc123
    • If you don't know your identifier, it will be in the terminal before $
  • Type your new password.
  • Log off the computer.
  • Log in to the computer with the new password.
  • At the pop-up, “The system was unable to unlock your login keychain:”
    • Select Update Keychain Password.
    • Enter your old password.
    • Shutdown computer, do not restart.
  • Turn on the computer.
  • Upon bootup, enter old password. (This time, it will NOT go directly your user profile).
  • Enter the new password on the login screen.
  • Restart the computer.
  • Login to FileVault Screen with your new password. (Should go directly to your profile).
