GlobalProtect On Demand VPN for Linux

Supported Operating Systems

The GlobalProtect On Demand VPN agent will work on the following Linux versions:

  • Ubuntu 16.04 LTS
  • Ubuntu 18.04 LTS
  • Ubuntu 19.04
  • Ubunto 20.04
  • Ubunto 22.04
  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux 8.7 and 9.1
  • CentOS 8.3

Where do I download the On Demand VPN agent?

  1. Download the On Demand VPN agent from my.utrgv.edu (sign in required)
  2. Select Help & Downloads.

  1. Select VPN

How do I install the GlobalProtect agent?

  1. Open the terminal on your device and install GlobalProtect. Note that the commands may vary depending on your version of Linux.
    1. Ubuntu/Debian CLI commands:
    2. sudo apt-get install libqt5webkit5
    3. sudo dpkg -i GlobalProtect_UI_deb.deb
  2. You will be prompted to sign in using your UTRGV username (first.last@utrgv.edu)

  1. After successfully entering your password you may receive a push notification on your phone or be prompted to verify your identity:
  2. When prompted for a portal address, enter myvpn.utrgv.edu then click Connect.   The portal address will be retained for future connections.

        7. When prompted for a portal address, enter myvpn.utrgv.edu then click Connect.

  1. Upon successful authentication the GlobalProtect Agent will show the status of Connected. If you wish to disconnect, please select the Disconnect option:

How do I use the On Demand VPN agent?

  1. Once the agent has been installed, the Global Protect icon will appear in the menu bar area. Click the icon to set up the VPN connection. Please enter myvpn.utrgv.edu and select Connect. The portal address only needs to be entered once, the GlobalProtect agent will remember the Portal Address moving forward:

  1. Enter your username and password starting at step 2 under How do I install the GlobalProtect App?
  2. To disconnect, click the GlobalProtect icon again, then click Disconnect.

Tips for a successful connection:

Verify that you are connected to the Internet

 

  • The On Demand VPN relies on an existing Internet connection. You must be connected to a known and pre-established Internet connection for On Demand VPN to work.
