Hypothesis Student Handout

Introduction:

You might access one of your courses and find that it requires the use of an annotation tool called Hypothesis. This student handout aims to familiarize you with the Hypothesis functions available to you in Brightspace.

What is Hypothesis.is?

Hypothes.is is a social annotation tool your instructors can use within D2L Brightspace that can allow students to discuss a reading or topic together. Conversations take place in line with the reading or topic, providing further clarity on the context that is being highlighted. Students can share their thoughts and understanding of the reading with their classmates. You can select text to annotate, reply, and share any annotation using links, images, or video.

Why Hypothesis?

Hypothesis lets you take notes, view, and reply to other notes, along with other features. When you open a Hypothesis assignment, you’ll see the web page or PDF your instructor has assigned alongside the Hypothesis platform.
