Introduction:
In Brightspace's Grades tool, instructors can create grading schemes to define achievement levels for grade items or categories. Each level specifies a grade range and letter grades to represent performance. These schemes help clearly communicate expectations and results, and they are easily applied to individual grade items or course categories.
Step-by-Step Instructions: Create a new grade scheme
- 1. In the Schemes tab, click New Scheme.

- 2. Complete the scheme details, including:

Name (1)

Short Name (2)

Ranges (3), including:
- Symbol or text you want to display in Grades when the grade is set.
- Start % that defines the starting threshold for the proficiency range.
- Color that provides a visual cue in Grades to quickly identify grade trends.
- Assigned Value % defines the numeric grade you want learners to achieve when you evaluate them using this grading scheme
- 3. If you want to add more ranges, enter the number of new ranges and click Add Ranges. (4)
