Managing Media Library Assets


Introduction:

The Media Library in Brightspace allows you to create, upload, and manage audio, video, SCORM objects, and other content in one convenient location. Use it to record, organize, and insert media directly into your courses with ease.


Uploading Assets to Media Library

Uploading assets to your Media Library allows you to reuse them across multiple courses, streamlining your content management. You can organize your assets by type or subject, and share them with other users by adding them as collaborators.

To upload assets:
  1. From your course navbar, click Tools > Media Library.

  2. Click Add Assets.

  3. Drag and drop your file to the Drop files box or click to browse and select a file from your computer.

  4. Once your file is uploaded, a confirmation will appear. Click Close.
  5. Your file is now visible in the Media Library, along with a confirmation that the upload is complete.

Supported files:

Video

.mp4, .mov, .wmv
Generate Captions recommended for accessibility. Maximum file size 2GB and up to 720p output.

Audio

.mp3, .m4a, .ogg, .wav, .wma
Generate Captions recommended for accessibility. Maximum file size 1GB.

Images .jpg, .jpeg, .png
Documents .doc, .docx, .odt, .xls, .xlsx, .rtf, .pdf, .ppt, .pptx, .pps, .ppsx, .odp
SCORM packages .zip (SCORM Only)

Tips:

  • Use Folders Strategically - Create folders based on course names, course modules, topics, or media types (e.g., lecture videos, student submissions, tutorials). This helps keep content structured and easy to find.
  • Leverage Sharing Settings - Adjust sharing permissions to share folders with other contributors.
  • Embed Media Directly into Course Content - Instead of uploading files multiple times, faculty can embed media from the library directly into Announcements, Assignments, or HTML pages. This keeps everything centralized and reduces duplication.
