Introduction:
Turnitin's AI writing detection capability is designed to help instructors identify text that might be prepared by a generative AI tool, such as large-language models, chatbots, and word spinners.
Turnitin's AI writing detection tool provides an indicator of potential AI-generated content, but its results should be interpreted with caution. The tool's accuracy is not absolute, and it may produce false positives or negatives, misclassifying human-authored, directly AI-generated, or AI-paraphrased text. Therefore, Turnitin's analysis should not be used as the sole determinant of academic misconduct. Instead, it serves as a starting point for further investigation, requiring careful human review and professional judgment. Any decision regarding academic integrity must be made in accordance with institutional policies and procedures, considering a comprehensive assessment of the evidence.
Note: The percentage generated by Turnitin’s AI writing detection model is different and independent of the similarity score. AI writing highlights are not visible in the Similarity Report.
The AI writing report is fully integrated into the new, enhanced Similarity Report experience. Access the AI writing report from the top menu by selecting the AI Writing tab, which contains the overall percentage of text detected as AI.
