Introduction:
This article guides students on how to easily access their McGraw-Hill ALEKS assignments and course materials directly from their Brightspace course.
Step 1: Navigating to Your Brightspace Course
- Log in to your institution's Brightspace (D2L) learning management system.
- From your Brightspace homepage, select the course that uses McGraw-Hill ALEKS.
Step 2: Locating the ALEKS Link
Your instructor will typically place the McGraw-Hill Campus link in a prominent location within your course. Look for it in one of the following areas:
-
Content: This is the most common place.
- Click on Content in your course navigation bar.
- Look for a module titled "Start Here," "Course Materials," "McGraw-Hill," or a module specifically for ALEKS.
- Within that module, you should see a link titled "McGraw-Hill Campus" or something similar (e.g., "Launch ALEKS," "ALEKS Course Materials").
-
Course Home / Widgets: Some instructors might add a direct link on the course homepage as a widget.
-
Modules / Weekly Content: Check within your weekly or unit modules if your instructor organizes content by week.
Step 3: Launching McGraw-Hill Campus and ALEKS
- Click on the "McGraw-Hill Campus" link (or whatever your instructor has named it) in your Brightspace course.
- A new window or tab will open, displaying the McGraw-Hill Campus dashboard.
Step 4: First-Time Setup (Important!)
The very first time you click the McGraw-Hill Campus link for a course, you may be prompted to connect your Brightspace account to your McGraw-Hill account. Follow the on-screen instructions carefully:
-
Sign in to your existing McGraw-Hill account: If you already have an ALEKS account (e.g., from a previous course), enter your McGraw-Hill email and password to link your accounts.
-
Create a new McGraw-Hill account: If you do not have a McGraw-Hill account, you will be prompted to create one. Use your institutional email address for this.
-
Enter your ALEKS Access Code: If your course requires an access code (often found on your textbook or purchased separately), you will be prompted to enter it here. If your institution uses inclusive access or an equivalent, this step might be skipped.
- Do NOT purchase another access code if you already have one. If you're unsure, check your syllabus or contact your instructor.
Once you complete this one-time setup, your Brightspace account will be linked to your ALEKS account.
Step 5: Accessing Your ALEKS Course
After the initial setup, every subsequent time you click the "McGraw-Hill Campus" link in Brightspace:
- You will be automatically logged into ALEKS.
- You will be taken directly to your ALEKS course homepage, where you can see your assignments, progress, and learning path.
Troubleshooting Tips:
- Link not working/page not loading:
- Ensure your browser's pop-up blocker is disabled for Brightspace.
- Try using a different web browser (e.g., Chrome, Firefox).
- Clear your browser's cache and cookies.
- Prompted to buy an access code when you already have one:
- Double-check that you are signing in to your existing McGraw-Hill account (if applicable) and not creating a new one.
- Confirm with your instructor or syllabus if an access code is required for your specific course setup.
- Grades not showing in Brightspace:
- Allow some time for grades to synchronize from ALEKS to Brightspace.
- Your instructor controls which ALEKS assignments sync to the Brightspace gradebook. If you believe there's an error, contact your instructor.
- General ALEKS functionality questions:
- Look for a "Help" or "Support" section within ALEKS itself.
- McGraw-Hill has extensive student support resources available online.
