How to Embed Videos from Library Sources in Brightspace

Brightspace Videos

Introduction:

This support article offers clear, step-by-step guidance on how to embed videos from various Library sources, such as Alexander Street, Kanopy, and Films on Demand, into your Brightspace course.

Alexander Street Videos

To embed a film from Alexander Street:

Option 1:

1. Log in to Alexander Street.
2. Search for your desired video(s) and select it.
3. From your selected video, click on Share.
4. Select Copy Embed Code.
5. Access your Brightspace course and edit the page where you want to embed the video.
6. Click on the Insert Stuff icon.
7. Select Enter Embed Code.
8. Paste the embed code here and click Next.
Note: Click on the "Allow" website option to enable content from Alexander Street to be loaded within Brightspace.
9. Select Insert to add the video to your page.
10. Select Save and Close to save the changes on your page.
Option 2:
1. Access your Brightspace course and edit the page where you want to embed the Alexander Street video.
2. Click on the Insert Stuff icon.
3. Select Alexander Street Video from the list of tools.
4. Search for the video and select the Embed Medium Size option (recommended).
5. Select Insert to add the video to your page.
6. Select Save and Close to save the changes on your page.

Kanopy Videos

To embed a film from Kanopy:

1. Log in to Kanopy as a user (i.e., not with your university's admin account).
2. Search for the film and select it.
3. On the film's details page, click the Share tab.
4. Click the Copy Link button under "Embed This Video."
5. Access your Brightspace course and edit the page where you want to embed the video.
6. Click on the Insert Stuff icon.
7. Select Enter Embed Code.
8. Paste the embed code here and click Next.

Note: Click on the "Allow" website option to enable content from Kanopy to be loaded within Brightspace.
9. Select Insert to add the video to your page.
10. Select Save and Close to save the changes on your page.

Troubleshooting

If you experience issues embedding films, make sure:

Your Kanopy website is set up to use HTTPS.
Your browser and your users' browsers are set up to watch embedded videos from Kanopy.
Your EZproxy stanzas point to kanopy.com.

Note: Kanopy previously used the domain "kanopystreaming.com." If you have a Kanopy stanza that points to "kanopystreaming.com," please remove it.

Films on Demand

To embed a film from Films on Demand:

1. Log in to Films on Demand.
2. Search for the film and select it.
3. Click on the Share option.
4. Click on Embed/Link.
5. Copy the Embed Code.
6. Access your Brightspace course and edit the page where you want to embed the video.
7. Click on the Insert Stuff icon.
8. Select Enter Embed Code.
9. Paste the embed code here and click Next.
10. Select Allow to allow the page to load within Brightspace.
11. Select Insert to add the video to your page.
12. Select Save and Close to save the changes on your page.
