Manage Dates in Brightspace


Introduction:

The Manage Dates tool in Brightspace allows instructors to quickly view, adjust, and organize activity and content dates from one central location. By bulk-editing due dates, start dates, and end dates, this tool streamlines updates and helps maintain a flexible, well-structured course schedule.


Step-by-Step Instructions:

  1. 1. Log into Brightspace and access your course.
    • On the navigation bar, click on the Course Admin.

  5. 3. Once in the Manage Dates tool, you'll see several features for filtering and adjusting dates:
  6. Mange Dates <menu>
    • [a] Course Duration: Use this option to view or adjust the overall course start and end date.
    • [b] Filter by Tool
      • All: View all dated content and activities across the course.
      • Specific Tools: Filter content by type (e.g., Assignments, Quizzes, Discussions) by checking the desired tool boxes.
    • [c] Show Advanced Filter Options:
      • Click to expand additional filtering options based on names, dates, and visibility.
    • [d] Apply Filter:
      • Once you've selected your filters, click this button to update the results.
    • [e] Check Bulk Edit Dates or Bulk Offset Dates
      • Bulk Edit Dates: Adjust availability and due dates for multiple items at once.
      • Bulk Offset Dates: Shift multiple dates forward or backward by a set number of days (great for reusing course content).
    • [f] Table: 
      • The main table displays all items based on your filters. Columns include:
        • Item type and name
        • Start, end, and due dates
        • Days available
        • Calendar display toggle
        • Visibility status

    • Click Show Advanced Filter Options to narrow your search using more specific criteria:
  8. Show/Hide Advanced Filter Options
    • Filter by Name: Search for content items containing specific words (e.g., "Chapter 1").
    • Filter by Due Date: Select a date range to view content due within that window.
    • Filter by Start/End Dates: View items with availability dates in a specific period.
    • Filter by Duration: Search items available for a specific number of days.
    • Filter by Calendar Status: Choose whether to display only items that are visible or hidden from the course calendar.

Troubleshooting Tips:

  • Not seeing any content in the table?
    • Check your filters.
    • Solution: Clear filters or click "Show All Tools" to ensure no unnecessary filters are hiding content.
  • Bulk edit or offset not applying to some items?
    • Only selected (checked) items are affected.
    • Solution: Make sure you select the checkbox beside each item you want to modify before applying bulk actions.
  • Changes not saving?
    • Save each section before navigating away.
    • Solution: After editing dates, click "Save" or "Done" at the bottom of the table to ensure your changes are applied.
  • Calendar display not updating?
    • Toggle might be disabled or forgotten.
    • Solution: Use the Calendar Display column in the table to toggle content visibility in the course calendar.
  • Advanced Filter isn’t narrowing results?
    • Ensure your filter values are valid.
    • Solution: Double-check your entered keywords and date ranges, and clear filters to try again.
