Introduction:
Respondus LockDown Browser is a custom browser that allows instructors to “lock down” the testing environment in Brightspace to help discourage cheating among students. In this document, we will be going over all the features it provides, as well as general questions and understanding one may have regarding it.
Step-by-Step Instructions:
Installing LockDown Browser
Before taking a test in LockDown Browser, you must ensure that the application is installed on every device taking the test. LockDown Browser can be downloaded from Brightspace or from the Software Center (for managed UTRGV computers)
- 1. Log into Brightspace.
- 2. Locate and access the faculty resources tab.
- 3. Select the Respondus LockDown Browser download link.
- 4. Locate and open the installation application from where it was downloaded into your respective device.
- 5. Once downloaded, open the application and log in to ensure it works properly.
Troubleshooting Tips:
- • Ensure that you are downloading Respondus LockDown from the UTRGV Brightspace website and no third party or other application download area.
- • For UTRGV employees they can download the application through the Software Center on UTRGV devices.
Note: Managed UTRGV computers require a managed LockDown browser version of the Respondus installation. You can download and install this version from the Software Center. You may contact the
IT Help Desk for further assistance to install the application on your computer in case you run into any issues.
