What is Anthology Ally for Students?

Anthology Ally, formerly known as Blackboard Ally, is an accessibility tool that is available to you in your courses by default. Ally provides downloadable alternative formats for documents uploaded to the course to help fit your needs.


How to use Ally:

When navigating your course, you may notice an icon that looks like this:

This is the icon for Ally. This gives you access to a wide range of alternative formats for documents in your course, ensuring that you can learn in the best way for you. You can access Ally by doing the following:

  1. 1.  Navigate to the course in which you would like to use Ally for alternative formats.
  2. 2. Click on the lesson page where the content is posted in the course.
  3. 3. Select the Ally Alternative formats icon in the top-right corner.
  4. 4. Here, you can select which type of alternative format you would like. A brief description of each is provided below:
  • ePub: Recommended if you would like to read the document as an ebook on an iPad or other ebook readers.
  • Electronic Braille: BRF version for use with electronic braille displays.
  • Audio: MP3 version for listening.
  • BeeLine Reader: Enhanced version for easier and more efficient on-screen reading.
  • Immersive Reader: Aimed to help reading comprehension and gramar skills. Requires a stable internet connection.
  • Translated Version: A machine Translated version of the original document in the language you need. To change the language, click the drop down arrow and select your desired language from the list. Please note that translations may not be completely accurate.
  1. 5. After selecting the alternative format you would like to download, click to download your new format.

How to Utilize Ally Alternative Formats:

Ally provides a range of different formats for you to utilize. Depending on the type of learning requirements you have, the type of format you select will differ. Many students use the audio version of their documents for learning on the go, and other students use the translation feature to read in their preferred language. Your needs will be different based on the type of learning you benefit from, so feel free to experiment with the different formats available to you.


Why Should Ally Be Used?

Anthology Ally provides you with alternate versions of documents in your courses. These alternate formats make the course more accessible to you, and your peers, for whatever your needs may be. Ally can help foster a more productive learning experience when paired with the correct format you need.
