Uploading Quizzes to Brightspace LMS

Respondus allows you to import questions from Word and publish directly to Brightspace.

Requirements:

• • Respondus 4.0 (with Brightspace personality)
• • Formatted quiz file (.txt/.doc/.docx)
• • UTRGV Respondus license and Brightspace server settings

Steps:

1. 1. Format your quiz file using Respondus syntax.
2. 2. Open Respondus → Select Brightspace (D2L) personality.

4. 3. Import your file → Click Preview + Publish → Choose Publish to Brightspace.

6. 4. Enter your Brightspace login settings.

8. 5. Select your course → Choose to create a quiz or add to the Question Library.

Many textbook publishers provide test banks compatible with Brightspace (e.g., McGraw-Hill, Pearson, Cengage).

Steps:

1. 1. Log in to your publisher account and download the Brightspace (.zip or QTI) version.
2. 2. In Brightspace → Course Admin > Import/Export/Copy Components
3. 3. Select Import Components → Upload your .zip file.
4. 4. Choose items to import (e.g., quizzes, question library).
5. 5. Review imported questions in the Question Library or Quizzes tool.
    

If you don’t use Respondus, you can either enter questions manually or use converters.

Formats Supported with CSV: Written response, Short answer, Matching, Multiple Choice, True or False, Multiselect, Ordering

Those with Macs are unable to use the Respondus Test Generator. An alternate tool available to you includes free test converter tools.

Then, upload the converted file using: Course Admin > Import Components

• • Use Question Library to store and organize questions before creating a quiz.
• • Use Question Pools to randomize questions per student.
• • Use Preview before releasing quizzes to students.
• • Review quiz settings for due dates, attempts, feedback, and restrictions.
