There are a few ways to give extra credit in Brightspace, whether you want to add bonus points to an existing activity or allow a grade to go above 100%.

This step-by-step guide will show you how to set up each option to best fit your grading approach.


Step-by-Step Instructions:

  1. 1. Log into Brightspace and access your course.
    • [a] Select Class Progress to view the drop-down menu and select Grades.
    • [b] Once on the Grades dashboard, click on Manage Grades.

  1. 2. Click on an item that you wish to count as a bonus, or change to include bonus points.
  2. Grading
    • [a] Can Exceed: if the item is to include more points as a bonus, select this, then Save and Close.
    • [b] Bonus: if the item itself is a bonus, select this, then Save and Close.
       
  3. 3. If the category is weighted, you can check Allow category to exceed category weight.
  4. Allow category grade to exceed category weight
  5. 4. If you have Bonus Items or Extra Credit in your course, you may want to allow students to exceed 100% for their final grade. Click on the Final Calculated Grade or Final Adjusted Grade and check Can Exceed.
