Introduction:
There are a few ways to give extra credit in Brightspace, whether you want to add bonus points to an existing activity or allow a grade to go above 100%.
This step-by-step guide will show you how to set up each option to best fit your grading approach.
Step-by-Step Instructions:
- 1. Log into Brightspace and access your course.
- [a] Select Class Progress to view the drop-down menu and select Grades.
- [b] Once on the Grades dashboard, click on Manage Grades.

- 2. Click on an item that you wish to count as a bonus, or change to include bonus points.
- [a] Can Exceed: if the item is to include more points as a bonus, select this, then Save and Close.
- [b] Bonus: if the item itself is a bonus, select this, then Save and Close.
- 3. If the category is weighted, you can check Allow category to exceed category weight.

- 4. If you have Bonus Items or Extra Credit in your course, you may want to allow students to exceed 100% for their final grade. Click on the Final Calculated Grade or Final Adjusted Grade and check Can Exceed.

Note: Please do not change the name of your Calculated or Adjusted Grade items in the gradebook.
