Introduction:
This article covers how to create an OpenStax assignable assignment in D2L/Brightspace.
Step-by-Step Instructions:
- 1. Click on the Content tab of your Brightspace course.
- 2. Open the module where you want to add FlatWorld content.
- 3. Click on the Add Existing button.

- 4. Click the More button for more options.

- 5. Select OpenStax from the list of third-party tools.

- 6. Next, you’ll be prompted to log in to your OpenStax account. Please note your OpenStax account will need to be instructor verified. Click “Link your OpenStax account”.
7.Click Log in or Sign up, and follow the steps to either log into your account or to create a new OpenStax account. If you have any difficulty verifying your OpenStax account as an instructor, you can reach out to our Customer Service team here.
8.Once you are logged in, return to D2L/Brightspace and select the OpenStax textbook you are using for your course and from which you would like to make an assignment.
9.Optional: After you have selected your textbook, we encourage you to add “My Textbook” and “My Highlights” as resources to your course page - click “Select” on both screens in order to do so. Selecting these resources will exit assignment creation and create a dedicated link on your course dashboard to the selected resources. After you have selected each of these items to add to your course page, you will need to return to step #3 and proceed from there to create your assignment. Note since you have already linked your account at this point, you will not need to repeat steps #6 -7.
10.Select the chapters/sections/activities you would like to include in your assignment, and then click “Create”.
11.You should see the assignment you have just created as an attachment on the new assignment page. You can preview the assignment by clicking “Preview assignment” which will open a new tab. You can adjust any other settings, and then click “Save and Close.”
