Introduction
Turnitin is an academic support tool that helps students review originality, writing quality, and proper citation practices. When you submit a written assignment through Brightspace, a Turnitin Similarity Report is generated. This report compares your submission against a large database of sources and provides feedback that you and your instructor can review.
This guide explains how to locate and view your Turnitin Similarity Report in Brightspace.
Step by Step Instructions
- Log in to Brightspace and open the course where you submitted the assignment.
- Go to Activities and Assignments on the navigation bar.

- On the dashboard, locate an assignment with a paper icon and binoculars.

- After reviewing, you can download or view details on the top right.
What You'll See in the Turnitin Report
- Similarity Percentage: Shows how much of your submission matches existing sources.
- Source Breakdown: Highlights matched text and links to source material.
- Feedback Tools (if enabled): May include instructor comments, QuickMarks, or rubric feedback.
Note: A higher similarity score does not automatically mean plagiarism. Your instructor determines how the report is interpreted.
Troubleshooting Tips
- No Similarity score visible? Your instructor may not have released the report yet.
- Report still processing? Newly submitted assignments can take time to generate a report.
- Can’t open the report? Try using Google Chrome or disabling pop-up blockers.
- Multiple submissions? The similarity score shown reflects the most recent submission.
- Seeing a 0% score? This may occur if no matching text was found or the report hasn’t finished processing.
