UTRGV Brightspace Two Factor Authentication (2FA) Setup Guide

Introduction

This guide provides step-by-step instructions for enabling Two Factor Authentication (2FA) when logging into Brightspace at UTRGV.

Step-by-Step Instructions

1. Open your web browser and navigate to https://brightspace.utrgv.edu.
2. Log in using the provided account credentials.
3. If prompted, you will see a screen similar to the example below requesting that you enable Two Factor Authentication.
4. Install an authenticator application on your mobile device if you do not already have one. Recommended applications include:
   • Microsoft Authenticator
   • Google Authenticator
   • Duo Mobile
5. Open the authenticator application on your phone and select the option to add a new account or profile.
6. Use your phone’s camera to scan the QR code displayed on the Brightspace setup page.
7. After scanning the QR code, your authenticator app will generate a 6-digit verification code.
8. Enter the 6-digit code into the Code field on the Brightspace page.
9. Select Check code to verify the setup.
10. Once verified, Two Factor Authentication will be enabled for your account and you can continue into Brightspace.

Important Notes:

• Keep your mobile device available whenever logging into Brightspace.
• If you replace or lose your phone, you may need assistance resetting your authenticator application.
• Contact the UTRGV IT Service Desk if you experience issues accessing your myUTRGV account.
