Access and Use OneDrive in Brightspace

Introduction

The Microsoft OneDrive integration in Brightspace allows you to access files stored in your UTRGV Microsoft 365 account and use them with your Brightspace courses.

The new integration uses Microsoft 365 LTI 1.3 to connect Brightspace with Microsoft 365. Depending on the activity provided by your instructor, you may use OneDrive to:

• Open files shared by your instructor.
• Access Microsoft 365 documents from Brightspace.
• Select files stored in your OneDrive.
• Submit OneDrive files to Brightspace assignments.
• Work with Word, PowerPoint, Excel, PDF, and other supported files.

Access a OneDrive File Shared by Your Instructor

Your instructor may add a OneDrive or Microsoft 365 file directly to your Brightspace course.

To access a file:

1. Log in to Brightspace.
2. Open the appropriate course.
3. Select Content from the course navigation.
4. Navigate to the module or unit containing the file.
5. Select the file provided by your instructor.
6. If prompted by Microsoft, sign in using your UTRGV Microsoft 365 account.
7. The document will open using the appropriate Microsoft 365 application or file viewer.

Sign In to Microsoft OneDrive

The first time you use the Microsoft 365 integration in Brightspace, you may be asked to sign in to Microsoft.

When prompted:

1. Enter your UTRGV email address.
2. Select Next.
3. Sign in using your UTRGV credentials.
4. Complete multifactor authentication (MFA), if prompted.
5. Return to Brightspace if you are not automatically redirected.

What is OneDrive?

Microsoft OneDrive is UTRGV's Microsoft 365 cloud file storage service. It allows you to store and access your files online. The Microsoft 365 LTI integration connects your UTRGV OneDrive with Brightspace so that supported files can be accessed or selected without requiring you to download them first.

Do I need to install OneDrive on my computer?

No. You can access OneDrive and many Microsoft 365 files directly through your web browser. Installing the OneDrive desktop application is not required to use the OneDrive integration in Brightspace.

Can I access my OneDrive outside of Brightspace?

Yes. Your UTRGV OneDrive is part of Microsoft 365 and can also be accessed outside Brightspace. However, when completing a Brightspace assignment or accessing a course resource, you should launch the activity from the Brightspace course to ensure you are working with the correct course activity.
