Body

Introduction

Use this guide to replace your current syllabus with a syllabus or template from a previous semester.

Before you Begin

Confirm that you are working in the correct Brightspace course and semester. Important: Replacing your current syllabus may remove content or changes you have already entered. Review your work carefully before continuing.

Access Your Course Syllabus

  1. Open your Course: From your Brightspace homepage, select the course containing the syllabus you want to complete.
  2. Open Simple Syllabus: From the course navigation bar, select Syllabus. Your course syllabus will open in Simple Syllabus. At the top of the page, you will see information about the course and the syllabus version currently in progress. The drop-down menu in the upper-right corner also includes a View/Dashboard option. The Dashboard provides another way to access and manage your assigned syllabi.

Replace Your Content from an Existing Syllabus

  1. Select Replace with a different Syllabus (located at the top of the page).Screenshot of Simple Syllabus showing the option to Select replace with a different syllabus
  2. Locate a Syllabus: Select a term or use the looking for something section to search for a syllabus. Prepopulated course syllabus may display at the bottom for you to select.Screenshot of Simple Syllabus showing the option to locate an existing course syllabus
  3. Select the syllabus you want to use. For example, you might select ACCT-2301-01 Fall 2026. The selected syllabus will replace the syllabus currently in progress.
Important: Replacing a syllabus is different from importing content. Replacing changes the current syllabus to the version you selected, while importing allows you to copy selected content into your existing syllabus.
  4. Review Each Syllabus Section: Carefully review the replacement syllabus and update all information for the new semester.
    • Make sure all required components are complete before submitting the syllabus.
  5. Preview the Syllabus: Select Preview to see how the published syllabus will appear to students. Review the syllabus for accuracy, formatting, and completeness. If you find an issue, return to the editing page and make the necessary corrections.Preview of a Simple Syllabus
  6. Submit the Syllabus: When all information is accurate and complete, select Submit. A confirmation message will appear indicating that your syllabus was submitted successfully. From the confirmation message, you can:
    • Copy the syllabus URL
    • Print the syllabus
    • Copy the embed code
