Body
Cisco phones can be moved between offices on any main campus (Brownsville, Edinburg, Harlingen) without requiring reconfiguration.
How It Works
The phone’s configuration (including its assigned number) is stored on the device itself. Moving the phone to a new network port will not change its settings or phone number.
Steps to Move Your Phone
- Unplug the phone from its current location.
- Plug the phone into an available network port at the new location.
- Wait for the phone to power on and connect to the network.
You should be able to make and receive calls once the device finishes booting.
If the Phone Does Not Work
If the phone does not power on, register, or cannot make/receive calls, the network port may not be enabled for telecom use.
Submit an IT Service Request and include:
- Phone number assigned to the device
- New location (building and room number)
- Network port label on the wall (if available)
- 12-character MAC address (located on the back of the phone)
- Phone model (e.g., CP-7841)
Leave the phone plugged into the network port after submitting the request so activation can be completed remotely.
Additional Information
- New phones (not previously assigned) require configuration before use.
- Existing phones retain their configuration and do not need to be reconfigured when moved.
Reminder
If your office location changes, be sure to update your information in the Online Directory.
