Add Users to OneNote Class Notebook

Introduction:

Manage your OneNote Class Notebook with ease, keep your course organized, and ensure the right students have access to collaborative notes and assignments in just a few simple steps!

This step-by-step guide walks instructors through adding and removing students from their Class Notebook in Brightspace.

Step-by-Step Instructions:

Add the LTI

  1. In Brightspace, go to the Lesson Folder where you want students to view OneNote. 
  2. Click on the blue Add Existing button and click on the External Tool Activity link.
  3. Scroll and find the Microsoft Education - Microsoft 365 LTI (OneDrive & Class Notebook) and click on the link to insert.
  4. Continue with the setup. 

Add Learners and Educators

  1. After adding a title to your notebook:
    • Learners who access this notebook from your LMS will automatically be added as students.
    • Educators who access this notebook from your LMS will automatically be added as co-teachers.
  2. Click Next, noting:
    • Collaboration Space: Team notes are stored here for everyone to see. All channels will have sections here.
      • Instructors can edit the content.
      • Students can edit the content
    • Content Library: Publish course materials to students.
      • Instructors can edit the content
      • Students can only view the content
    • Teacher-Only Section: A private space for teachers
      • Instructors can edit the content
      • Students cannot view the content
    • Student Notebooks: A private space for each student.
      • Instructors can edit the content
      • Students can edit their own content and can't view others' notebooks
  3. Set up the sections in each student's private space. Then Create.
  4. Finally, if more users need to be added later on:

  • Click on Class Notebook on the toolbar.
  • Scroll to Add/Remove.
  • Choose either Add/Remove Students or Add/Remove Teachers.
