Introduction:
Students can submit assignments directly in Brightspace using either the Content module or the Assignments tool. Submissions may include text documents, images, presentations, or videos, depending on the instructor’s requirements. Each successful submission generates a confirmation email sent to your UTRGV student email account.
Step-by-Step Instructions:
NOTE: If you do not see an assignment link in a module, it may not have been added by your instructor. In this case, use the Assignments tool (Option 2).
There are two ways to access an assignment:
-
1. Log in to Brightspace and access your course.

- 2. Click on the module to view its contents, and after viewing the submission details, go to My Work.
-
NOTE: You may submit text documents (e.g., .doc, .docx, .pdf), presentations (.ppt), images (.jpg, .jpeg, .png), or video files (.mp4, .mov, .wav). Always check the assignment instructions for any file restrictions.
- Add a file from your Locker, Group Locker, or OneDrive Files.
- Record Audio for MP3 file submissions.
- Record Video for MP4 submissions.
- 3. For Panopto Student Video Submissions 1.3, or other link submissions, you can use the comment box and click on the Insert Stuff icon.

- 4. After uploading a file, you should be able to see the following finished icon.

- 5. After confirming, click Submit to turn in your assignment.
- After submitting, you can see your attempt below the submission box.

Submitting via Class Progress:
-
1. In your course, locate Activities and click the drop-down button to select Assignments.
-

- 2. Here, you have access to all assignments and their status.
- Select a link to one of the assignments to continue.

- 3. Then, upload your submission in the same manner as in the Content area.

- 4. Once finished, click Submit.

Troubleshooting Tips and Q&A:
- • Why can’t I see my assignment link in a module?
- Your instructor may not have added it to the module.
- Try accessing the Assignments tool from the course navbar under Tools → Assignments.
- • My file will not upload. What should I do?
- Check that the file type matches what your instructor requires (e.g.,
.docx
, .pdf
, .jpg
).
- Ensure the file size does not exceed the Brightspace upload limit.
- If the file is still not uploading, try:
- Renaming the file (avoid special characters like

).
- Switching to a different browser (Chrome or Firefox is recommended).
- Checking your internet connection.
- • I clicked Submit, but I don’t see a confirmation. Did it work?
- You should see a Submission Confirmation page immediately after submitting.
- Brightspace will also send an email confirmation to your Carleton student email.
- If you do not receive either, your file may not have uploaded properly. Try submitting again.
- • Can I replace or resubmit my assignment?
- This depends on your instructor’s settings.
- If multiple submissions are allowed, you will see an Add a File button again after your first submission.
- If only one submission is allowed, you’ll need to contact your instructor for permission to resubmit.
- • I submitted the wrong file by mistake! What should I do?
- Immediately email your instructor to let them know.
- Include the correct file in your email so they have it as a reference.
- Your instructor may allow you to resubmit or may grade based on what you uploaded.
- • I did not get an email receipt. How do I verify my submission?
- Go back into the Assignments tool and click on the assignment.
- If your file was submitted, you should see your file listed under Submission History.
- If nothing appears there, you’ll need to resubmit the file.
