GlobalProtect On Demand VPN for macOS

IMPORTANT:  UTRGV-owned Macbooks receive Global Protect Always On by default .  

 

Supported Operating Systems

The GlobalProtect On Demand VPN app will work on the following major macOS versions:

  • macOS 10.15 (Catalina)
  • macOS 11 (Big Sur)
  • macOS 12 (Monterrey)
  • MacOS 13 (Ventura)
  • MacOS 14 (Sonoma)
  • MacOS 15 (Sequoia)

Download the App

  1. Point your browser to https://myvpn.utrgv.edu.  You will be prompted to sign in.  Enter your UTRGV Email Address and password.

  1. After successfully entering your password, complete the Multifactor Authentication (MFA) prompt.   GlobalProtect On Demand uses your default Multifactor Authentication (MFA) sign-in method.  Click here to update your authentication methods and default sign-in method.
     
  2. Once you successfully logged in, select the GlobalProtect Mac agent option and save it to your computer.

Install the App

  1. Once the GlobalProtect Mac app has successfully downloaded, open the GlobalProtect.pkg from your download location.  When prompted to install GlobalProtect, select Continue.

       2. Select Continue on the Installation Type screen.

      3. Next Select Install

     4. The installer may ask for username and password used to login to your computer to install the new software.

   5. You will be notified after the installation is successful. Select Close once the installation has finalized.


Create a VPN Connection

  1. Once the GlobalProtect app has been installed, the top menu bar will show the GlobalProtect icon (image of a globe). Select Get Started.

  1. The first time you connect, you will need to provide the portal address.  Enter myvpn.utrgv.edu and select Connect.  The portal address will be retained for future connection

      3. A new window will open and you will be prompted to sign in. Enter your UTRGV Email Address and password.

 

    4. After successfully entering your password, complete the Multifactor Authentication (MFA) verification.  GlobalProtect On Demand uses your default Multifactor Authentication (MFA) sign-in method.  Click here to update your authentication methods and default sign-in method.

    5. Upon successful authentication, the GlobalProtect app will show the status of Connected. If you wish to disconnect, please select Disconnect.
