ChatGPT Edu License Pilot
UTRGV has launched a pilot set of licenses to ChatGPT Edu for faculty and staff use. Access to ChatGPT Edu is provided through an institutionally managed, education-licensed environment. Similar to our Microsoft Copilot environment, this means the service will operate with enterprise-grade privacy and security safeguards that align with UTRGV requirements, as opposed to a personal consumer account. Licenses are currently available through March 31, 2027.
How to apply
Faculty and staff may apply for an individual license by completing a short request form that can be accessed by clicking on the “Request Service” form on the right side of this page. The application is designed to be brief and focused on helping us allocate licenses responsibly and understand intended use.
The form asks for:
- Basic role and department information
- Intended use cases (teaching, research, student success, administrative work, etc.)
- Anticipated frequency and timing of use
- Confirmation regarding sensitive or regulated data
Our goal is to keep this process as straightforward and non-onerous as possible while ensuring appropriate stewardship of a limited number of licenses.
Important notes
- Submitting an application does not guarantee a license.
- Licenses may be reallocated if they are not actively used.
- These licenses are intended for faculty and staff (not students).
Thank you for your interest in responsible and intentional use of generative AI to support the university’s teaching, research, and student success mission.
