GlobalProtect On-Demand VPN Setup for macOS (Personal Devices)

Current UTRGV employees and students can use GlobalProtect to create a secure Virtual Private Network (VPN) connection and access university network resources.
This article provides instructions for installing and using GlobalProtect on personal macOS devices.

Important: UTRGV-owned MacBooks are configured with GlobalProtect Always-On VPN by default and do not require manual setup.

 

Supported Operating Systems

GlobalProtect On-Demand VPN is supported on the following macOS versions:

  • macOS 10.15 (Catalina)
  • macOS 11 (Big Sur)
  • macOS 12 (Monterey)
  • macOS 13 (Ventura)
  • macOS 14 (Sonoma)
  • macOS 15 (Sequoia)
  • macOS 16 (Tahoe)

 

Download the App

  1. Go to the myvpn.utrgv.edu
     
  2. Sign in using your UTRGV email address and password.

  3. If prompted, complete Multifactor Authentication (MFA).
     
  4. After signing in, select GlobalProtect Mac Agent and download the installer.

Install the App

  1. Open the downloaded GlobalProtect.pkg file.
     
  2. Select Continue on the introduction screen.

  3. Select Continue on the Installation Type screen.

  4. Select Install.

  5. Enter your Mac username and password if prompted.

  6. Select Close once the installation is complete.


Create a VPN Connection

  1. Open GlobalProtect from the macOS menu bar (globe icon) and select Get Started.

  2. Enter the portal address: myvpn.utrgv.edu, then select Connect.
    Note: The portal address will be saved for future use.

  3. Sign in with your UTRGV email address and password.

  5. Once connected, the status will display Connected.
