GlobalProtect On Demand VPN for Windows

This article applies only to personal (non‑UTRGV‑owned) Windows computers.
UTRGV‑owned Windows computers receive GlobalProtect Always On by default.

 

Supported Operating Systems

GlobalProtect On‑Demand is supported on:

  • Windows 10
  • Windows 11

 

Download GlobalProtect

  1. Go to the GlobalProtect VPN portal (myvpn.utrgv.edu)
  2. Sign in using your UTRGV email address and password.
  3. If prompted, complete the Multifactor Authentication (MFA) prompt.
  4. Select the Windows 64‑bit GlobalProtect agent.GlobalProtect page showing the download options for GlobalProtect with the Windows 64-bit option selected.
  5. The installer will download to your computer’s Downloads folder.

 

Install GlobalProtect

  1. Open the downloaded GlobalProtect64 file.
  2. When the setup wizard opens, select Next.

  3. Accept the default installation location and select Next.

  4. Confirm the installation by selecting Next.

  5. If prompted by User Account Control, select Yes.
  6. When the installation completes, select Close.

Create a VPN Connection

  1. Locate the GlobalProtect icon in the Windows system tray (globe icon).
    • If the icon is not visible, select the up arrow to show hidden icons.

  2. Select the GlobalProtect icon.
  3. In the portal address field, enter: myvpn.utrgv.edu

  4. Select Connect.
    • The portal address will be saved for future connections.
  5. Sign in with your UTRGV email address and password.

  6. Complete the Multifactor Authentication (MFA) prompt.
  7. Once connected, the GlobalProtect status will display Connected

Periodic Updates

  • When a new version is available, you will be prompted to update GlobalProtect.
  • Select Yes to download and install updates.
  • After the update completes, open GlobalProtect and select Connect.
  • Sign in again and complete MFA if prompted.

 

Additional Information

  • The VPN connection will automatically disconnect after 10 hours.
  • Verify you are connected to the internet before launching GlobalProtect.
  • On‑Demand VPN requires an active internet connection to establish a session.

 

Special Cases – ARM‑Based Processors

Most Windows users do not need this installer. Only follow this section if your Windows device uses an ARM‑based processor (for example, Snapdragon).
