Body
Ensuring that all software installed on university-owned devices is authorized and properly licensed is crucial for maintaining security and compliance at the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV). This guide provides a comprehensive overview of the steps and resources available for UTRGV employees to install authorized software.
Company Portal (Software Center)
Search and open the Software Center or Company Portal app on your Windows Computer to download and install university-wide authorized licensed software.
UTRGV Software Inventory
UTRGV’s Software Inventory lists all software owned by the university, over 1,200 titles. Employees are encouraged to check this inventory prior to purchasing new software or installing unauthorized free software. The software inventory list is located on the top menu within the myUTRGV portal.
If you need assistance contacting the listed owner to inquire about the software licenses, please submit a software license request.
Install Authorized Licensed Software
Use Cyberark to install authorized licensed software. Freeware and free applications require a Software Assessment before installing on university-owned devices or university network environments.
Software Assessments
All UTRGV employees must submit a Software Assessment Request for all software purchases BEFORE:
- downloading and installing software (including freeware and free applications)
- buying
- contract or license renewals
- changes in software use or functionality as defined in the original software assessment
If the software is a cloud based software, it must meet TX-Ramp Certification Requirements.
