Cisco Jabber – Setup and Installation Guide

The Cisco Jabber application allows users to make and receive phone calls using their computer.

Before You Begin

Before using Jabber, your phone extension must be pre-configured by the IT Telecom group.

To request that your extension be configured, submit a Softphone Request with the following details:

  • Category: Telecom (Phone or Voice Mail)
  • Subcategory: Softphone Application

Note: Jabber will not function until this request has been completed.

 

Network Requirements

You must be on the campus network or connected to the VPN to access and use Jabber. If you are off campus, please connect to the UTRGV Virtual Private Network (VPN) first.

 

Download Cisco Jabber

  1. Log in to my.utrgv.edu
  2. Select the Help & Downloads tab.
  3. Select Jabber.
  4. Choose your operating system (Windows or macOS).
  5. Under Documents, select the listed ZIP file.
  6. Select the Info button, then click Download to begin the download.

 

Install on Windows Computers

  1. Locate the downloaded Cisco Jabber ZIP file.
  2. Right‑click the file and select Extract All.
  3. Open the extracted folder and double‑click CiscoJabberSetup.msi.
  4. Follow the on‑screen prompts to complete the installation.
  5. Once installed, open the Cisco Jabber application.

Note: If assistance is needed during installation, please contact the IT Service Desk.

 

Install on macOS Computers

  1. Locate the downloaded Cisco Jabber ZIP file.
  2. Open the ZIP file.
  3. Open the Install_Cisco‑Jabber‑Mac package.
  4. Accept all prompts to complete the installation.
  5. Once installed, open the Cisco Jabber application.

 

Log In to Jabber

  1. Open the Cisco Jabber application.
  2. When prompted for a username, enter your UTRGV identifier.
  3. Enter your password

Note: Your identifier is a six‑character username (for example: abc123). If you do not remember your identifier, follow the steps in this article: Recover Your UTRGV Username or Identifier
