GlobalProtect On Demand VPN for Windows

IMPORTANT:  UTRGV-owned Windows laptops receive GlobalProtect Always On by default (replacing DirectAccess).  


Supported Operating Systems

The GlobalProtect On Demand VPN app will work on Windows 10 and 11.
 

Download the App

  1. Point your browser to https://myvpn.utrgv.edu. You will be prompted to sign in.  Enter your UTRGV Email Address and Password.

  1. After successfully entering your password, complete the Multifactor Authentication (MFA) prompt. 
     
  2. Once you successfully logged in, select the Windows 64 bit GlobalProtect agent option.  The file will begin downloading to your default download location.

Install the App

  1. Once the GlobalProtect Windows app has successfully downloaded, open the GlobalProtect64 file from your download location. 
     
  2. When prompted to install GlobalProtect, select Next.

  1. Start installation, select Next.

  1. Confirm installation, select Next.

  1. If prompted by a User Account Control window to allow this app to make changes to your device, select Yes.
     
  2. You will be notified after the installation is successful. Select Close once the installation has finalized.

Create a VPN Connection

  1. Once the app has been installed, the Global Protect icon will appear in the System Tray at the bottom right (image of a globe).  If you don’t see the icon, click on the up arrow to show hidden icons.  Click the icon to set up the VPN connection. Enter myvpn.utrgv.edu as the portal address and select Connect. The portal address will be retained for future connections.

  1. A new window will open and you will be prompted to sign in.  Enter your UTRGV Email Address and password.

  1. After successfully entering your password, complete the Multifactor Authentication (MFA) verification.  GlobalProtect On Demand uses your default Multifactor Authentication (MFA) sign-in method.  Click here to update your authentication methods and default sign-in method.
     
  2. Upon successful authentication, the GlobalProtect app will show the status of Connected. If you wish to disconnect, please select Disconnect

Periodic Upgrades

When a new version is available you will be notified when you log in to the GlobalProtect app. It's important to accept all updates.

  1. Select Yes when you receive notice that an update is available. This will download the new version of GlobalProtect.

  1. When prompted, select Yes to start the installation.

  1. Select the GlobalProtect icon on the System Tray at the bottom right (image of a globe) and select Connect.  If you don’t see the icon, click on the up arrow to show hidden icons.

  1. After you click on the GlobalProtect icon, select Connect.

  1. If prompted to log in, enter your UTRGV Email Address and password and complete the MFA prompt. 
     

Additional Information

  • The connection will automatically disconnect after 10 hours.
  • Verify that you are connected to the Internet before using the GlobalProtect app.  You must be connected to a known and pre-established internet connection for On Demand VPN to work.
