SPSS – Install for UTRGV Owned Devices

UTRGV is currently licensed to use IBM SPSS Statistics version 28 only. This article provides guidance for installing SPSS on UTRGV‑owned computers.

Important: If you are installing SPSS on a personal (non‑UTRGV) device, please refer to the KB article for SPSS installation on personal devices.

SPSS Installation Restrictions 

IBM Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS):

• May ONLY be used for University‑related academic work or research
• May NOT be used in hospitals or clinics
• May NOT be used for University operational or administrative purposes (non‑academic, non‑educational use)

Network and VPN Requirements

SPSS can be installed and used both on campus and off campus on UTRGV‑owned computers. Network requirements depend on your location.

• On campus: Your computer must be connected to the UTRGV network.
• Off campus: You must connect to GlobalProtect VPN before installing or launching SPSS.

Important: SPSS will not work off campus unless GlobalProtect VPN is connected.

Installation Instructions – UTRGV‑Owned Devices

Follow the steps below based on your operating system.

Windows (UTRGV‑Owned)

1. Open the Software Center or Company Portal application.
2. Locate IBM SPSS Statistics 28 in the list of available applications.
3. Select Install.
4. Allow the installation to complete.

macOS (UTRGV‑Owned)

1. Open the Self Service application.
2. Locate IBM SPSS Statistics 28 in the list of available applications.
3. Select Install.
4. Allow the installation to complete.

SPSS Availability Without Installation

SPSS is also available through Virtual Computer Labs (vLabs) for both faculty and students.

• Using vLabs does not require installing SPSS on your device.
